Colac starts recycling water as water restrictions tighten

RECYCLED water is set to start flowing in Colac as the town grapples with tighter water restrictions coming into force this week.

State Environment Minister Lisa Neville officially opened the upgraded Colac Water Reclamation Plant on Monday, four days ahead of level two restrictions being enacted.

The $9.75 million upgrade will allow the plant to produce class C recycled water suitable for irrigating crops, watering sporting grounds and some industrial uses.

Two covered 12 million-litre lagoons, a pump station and a pipeline with biogas production are also included in the renovated plant. Ms Neville said Colac’s water storage level was at 39 per cent with many other regional centres recording similar catchments.

“This is an important upgrade for Colac’s water supplies and will assist with the region’s potable water supplies in the coming years,”
